Parts of your bike – What are you riding?

Everybody knows it. You need a new bike and you go to the biggest bicycle shop in your town. There are so many bikes that are really cool but which one will fulfil your needs? You ask the nice guy behind the counter. Well, he shows you several bikes. The expensive mountain bike for the more professional rider, the light racing cycle for competition, the more common road bike, the electric bike for lazy rider and a few mountain bikes in special offer. But which parts make the real difference in quality and in pricing?

  Let's start with the most important component of a bike, the frame. This is the hearth of every bike. No matter if it's a full suspension mountain bike, a racing cycle or a cheap road bike. No frame, no bike. Simple. Of course the frame is the most expensive part of your bike and there are so many different types. They differ in weight, size, optic, style, material, price, … and so on. At this point you should make your decision what type of bike you would like to ride in the near future.

  The second bike component is the shifting system. They also differ in several things but this depends on your riding style. The shifting system of a racing cycle will be really different in comparison to the shifting system of a mountain bike.

  Another important parts are the two wheels. Could you imagine to ride a bike on or off road without wheels? Me neither! The two wheels are called the wheelset. This wheelset consists of the axle, the hub, the spokes and the rims. You need a special wheelset for nearly every type of riding.

  Not a very important part but more a comfortable part is the fork. Well for most bikes and riding types the fork is very important and must be very special but what it does is to absorb the road holes to make your ride comfortable.

  Safety first? Of course. Your bike needs a braking system. The two big ones are the disc brakes and the rim brakes known as V-brakes. There are also some differences in weight, field of application, performance and price.
