Philippine Wedding Photography: Posing Tips for the Bride and Groom

By: khloe

During your wedding, Filipino wedding photographers will require you to pose a lot for your wedding photos. Both you and your chosen photographer need to plan if you want to create perfect wedding photos that you would love to look at for years to come. Here are some Philippine wedding photography posing tips you can use.

Size Matters
The very first thing you and the wedding photographer need to do is to consider is your sizes (both bride and groom). If one of you is on the heavy side, it would be smart not to pose sitting down since heavier people look better in standing shots. Another trick is to pose in a 20-degree angle to reduce the width.

In case there is a considerable height difference between you and your partner, it would be better if your photographs were taken while sitting so that the the difference is not that obvious. If you wish to have a shot standing up, stand a few inches in front of the shorter partner, and then your wedding photographer will take the shot in a slightly upward angle.

Tilting the Head
Professional Filipino wedding photographers normally ask the bride and groom to tilt their heads. If you're the groom, it would be best if you tilt head down looking at the front shoulder (the masculine tilt). If you're the bride, tilt your head down and over the back shoulder (the feminine tilt). This helps to flatten the image, and lends a bit more grace to the females in the image.

Solo and Group Shots
Avoid posing with straight arms, as if you are about to have your ID picture taken and avoid posing with harshly bent arms as well. If you're the bride, you should fold your hands in front below the waist, and the groom with his hands in his pockets with his thumbs out. For standing shots, place your weight on the foot farthest from the camera. You could also move one foot forward while sifting your weight on your back foot.

When posing with your bridal bouquet, hold it in front in such a way that it does not cover the details of your wedding dress and gives you a sharp angle at the elbows.

Traditional Philippine wedding photography is never complete without group pictures. Your group shots will tend to look better if you are at an angle. Have the group angle in at 20 to 45 degrees. Split the group into two, and then angle one side in from the left, and then other in from the right.

Save your Smile
Aside from posing, one of the most tiring thing to do is smiling. Filipino wedding photographers are observant. When they feel that you or your partner are tired of smiling, they usually let you rest for a bit or help you by thinking of a ‘happy’ word like “cheese” as they don't want their clients to look tired on their wedding photos.

What’s important is you are comfortable doing the shot and it looks natural. Remember, Philippine wedding photography is not all about traditional formal and posed shots. It also involves a good mix of candid and photojournalistic shots. Filipino wedding photographers will also take these shots of you and your partner throughout your wedding. Loosen up a bit and enjoy your day. Your wedding photographs will serve as a lasting proof on how you were of this special day. So, start rehearsing and remember, smile!
