Political Forum - A Web-Based Community Forum To Discuss Various Issues

By: Thomas Bridleman

What exactly are political forums? It is generally a subscription internet site set up to discuss various events, differing opinions and breaking news in the field of politics. The better forums are the ones which have no political bias i.e. they are not pro Democrat or Republican but are set up with the purpose of motivating open and honest debate with participants having different views.

The owner and other staff on the site must encourage exchange of views as this will make the site more popular and hence will attract more visitors and resulting members. But they should also moderate the political forums correctly. While arguments are frequent when anybody talks about state policies, it shouldn't be an excuse for one member to abuse another. The moderator's role in a political forum is to prevent the debate descending into personal attacks. At the same time they do not want to stop an interesting discussion. It is not a simple job but many individuals can identify the difference between someone that is expressing a point of view and those that are merely trying to be unruly.

There is a reason why you probably shouldn't talk about sex, religion or state policies at a get together. Individuals are likely to hold really strong opinions on the subject. Some people educate themselves regarding the various issues and come to political forums to discuss these arguments. They are ready to listen to what the other individuals think and will sometimes be convinced by the debate to change their views on that particular issue.

But you also have those individuals that have followed a particular party because that is what their family members always voted. They may not completely comprehend exactly why they are a Democrat or a Republican but they will defend the policies of the relevant party to the last. These people have a tendency to start quoting the Constitutional right to freedom of speech when you try to state the point. Sometimes it is pointless trying to get into a discussion with them and the best thing is to leave and find political forums populated with individuals that are much more broad minded.
