Scuba Dive Tips: New Divers

By: Susan Kramper

Scuba diving can be as much fun as any other sport just as long as you know the basics and necessary diving gear. Besides acquiring the essential skills and training for scuba diving, you should consider investing on the equipment used for such sport. For instance , you should have a mask that is durable and suitable for you. When purchasing a mask, try it on and make sure that you can comfortably inhale through your nose. If you are already at your diving site, no hair should be stuck at the mask's skirt. You can try as many kinds of masks as possible until you get the perfect one for you.

You should also be aware that a protective film on mask's window can be found especially if it is new. Make sure that you clean the mask. Otherwise , the protective film can cause problems such as unclear vision or fogging. You should clean the protective film with a defogging cleaner, which are recommended by dive instructors or expert divers.

One of the most proven scuba dive tips is to bring some clothing detergent that you can pack in a small container such as a pill or medicine box. This way you can clean your mask conveniently before you go underwater.

Most expert divers may have already experienced their regulators that seem to push their mouths to the left during their dives. This is usually the discomfort felt by divers who do not have regulators with built-in swivels. Thus , it is advisable to purchase a 2nd stage regulator with ball swivel rather than buy a 1st stage regulator. If you cannot find a 2nd stage regulator, one scuba dive tip is to turn your air tank slightly in clockwise direction. When you assemble the BCD or buoyancy control device to the air tank, turn the tank clockwise so that the K-valve would be pointing slightly to your right. This would make a big difference and often solves the discomfort.

If you have preference for shore and boat dives, one scuba dive tip is to purchase a pair of booties as well as open heel diving fins. The booties would protect your feet from stones or sharp corals as you walk through the sea. The fins, on the other hand, the open heel diving fins would prevent you from slipping on the wet floor. If you have diving fins that have removable buckles, make sure that you slip the strap over your heels. You can take them off through slipping the strap under the heels. Normally, the buckles or straps of fins are lost during the process of taking them off. Therefore, it is advisable that you put them on properly so you can take them off easily without losing any part. Furthermore, this would save you the inconvenience of finding a replacement for a lost strap or buckle when you are already at the middle of your diving trip.
