So You Want to Select a Cell Phone Service Provider?

By: Demetrice Lewis

Selecting a cell phone service provider means being able to find one that will tailor to your reason for having a cell phone and your wallet. When choosing a cell phone service provider there are tons of places that are easily accessible making it possible to find the perfect company that is both affordable and meets your needs all in one place. The task of selecting the right company can be very challenging and seem terribly difficult because you have to consider the various plans, extras that are offered, all the providers in your area and the various terms and contracts.

By chance you might want to have cell phones only for family emergencies and during vacations or travels. Collecting a comprehensive list in regards to various cellular phone service providers will help you find the answers to various questions that you may have. Looking over the list you made will help you decide which company is going to provide you the most for your money.

Are you looking for a family plan so that the entire group can chat with one another and with friends? There is a huge selection of family plans or packages available on the market today. The challenge is to figure out which of these plans is going to get you the most for your money. You will want to take that list you made of providers and do some shopping around. The hook for many family plans is the number of minutes that they are offering for the package. Look closely at those minutes. You need to figure out how much everyone talks and how many people will be on the plan. You're going to have to split up all those minutes. Depending on the size of your group and how much they chat with others, the main family packages might not offer enough minutes. You will be better off going to a larger number of minutes. You will want to shop around with the companies for approximately the same number of minutes when determining who offers the best price for the amount of time that your family is actually going to need.

Then look closely at the per line charges. This is where many people become confused about family plans. While the plan may say a specific price, for every person in your family that has a phone, the cell phone service provider will add another line. The additional line is essentially assigning a phone number to that specific phone. Most cell phone service providers charge per additional line, this charge could be anywhere from $10 to $30 per line depending on the provider.

Another aspect to consider when selecting a service provider is the buying of the actual cell phones that you will be using. Will the provider let you purchase phones elsewhere and activate them? Do you have to purchase phones with the plan? What type of minimum commitment will you have to make when you purchase the cell phones at a reduced price? Some cellular service providers will offer free phones or very reduced priced phones to new customers. However, you need to be aware that they will often lock you into a contract with them as your service provider for one or two years. Leaving the service provider before the specified time can cost you an arm and a leg in penalties and early disconnection fees. Look closely at what type of trade-off you're making with the cellular service provider for getting free or low-priced cell phones.

Even though there is a great deal to think about when selecting your cell phones and the type of plan, collecting information and shopping around will result in you finding the best deal for your money.
